8.11.2013 Out Of A Field That Is To The Left
I have nothing to talk about so it’s time for commentary!
I have a strange aversion to drawing Mary’s bum, but I’m completely fine with drawing Alice’s enormous keister. I think it’s because Mary is still very childlike, so drawing her cute little tush and drawing even slight attention to it through her body language, even if it’s very subtle, feels awkward, and kinda wrong.
But she is indeed 19 years old and if I’ve learned anything in my life, it’s that determining age by appearance is probably not always accurate. I must accept Mary for the adult she is, and if that means I sometimes draw her little butt in her tight shorts, well, that’ll just be my cross to bear.
You can’t even see it
The mere side of Mary’s bum at a 3/4ths angle alone is enough to make me fall into a fit of “I’m so sorry Mary, this is for the good of the strip. I don’t REALLY wanna draw your fanny, but anatomy is anatomy. I can’t help it.”
And yes I talk to my characters as I draw them. I also tuck them into bed each night, and kiss them on the forehead. Smith sleeps with a “toy” panther. I’ve tried to wean him off of it, but he loves the little thing too much. He kisses it, strokes it and sometimes does things with it that are not suitable for publicized comments.
